Student Organization for Leadership, Justice and Advocacy

The Student Organization for Leadership, Justice and Advocacy (SOLJA) is a network of high school students throughout the State dedicated to the promotion of social justice in their communities. Our mission is to inspire students to be well informed and actively involved in the issues and processes that effect their lives.

Through the formation of a network of community members, university faculty and public agencies, SOLJA provides a resource base for students to utilize in their own advocacy efforts. We hope to establish an on-going relationship and learning circle with students through a flow of information and contacts.

Sample Planned Activities

  • Workshops/seminars by renowned UH faculty and community leaders
  • Student-factilitated debates and forums
  • Service-learning projects
  • Peer mediation training

Student Benefits

  • Meet peers from other schools through the State.
  • Leadership skills
  • Develop awareness of and promote solutions to pressing social issues

Contact SOLJA program coordinator, Sheela Sharma, at 956-7348.
